There are certain things that every wellness-obsessed traveler should do when visiting Los Angeles: Try the blue smoothie bowl (okay, and the fried chicken sandwich) at Great White; browse the newly legalized cannabis offerings at MedMen; and, when not surfing or hiking the canyons, book as many boutique fitness classes as possible.
But where? Well, this spring, you’ll have no shortage of buzz-worthy options at which to get your planks on, ranging from new outposts of established studios (like the oh-so-SoCal flagship Y7 just opened in Silver Lake) to fresh concepts that you can’t find anywhere else (i.e. LA’s first “self-discovery studio,” where you’ll journal, chant, and recalibrate your electromagnetic field after you sweat).
So before you start planning your next trip to La La Land—perhaps you want to stop there before the upcoming Well+Good retreat?—check out this list of 10 new fitness studios that are worth a visit. Trust me, the Hollywood sign can wait.

1. Ritual Gym (opening May 2018)
Prepare to retire your best “I’m too busy to exercise” excuse. This Singaporean import specializes in ultra-efficient HIIT workouts that last just 20 minutes. (Basically, an average social media scrolling session.) Classes, which feature both strength and cardio intervals, are held every half-hour—and there are also fully stocked showers and a smoothie bar, so you can head straight from the studio to whatever adventures you have planned for the day.

2. Y7 Silver Lake
Y7’s got a new West Coast flagship, and it takes full advantage of LA’s indoor-outdoor lifestyle, with an al fresco shower and hangout deck for catching some post-yoga vitamin D. Inside, you’ll find an infrared-heated studio (with a seriously good sound system for the candlelit classes’ hip-hop soundtracks) and pop-up retail space. The 2,500-square-foot Eastside spot is also going to be headquarters for a few new class formats and workshops—watch this space.

3. Mind, Body and Soul at OUE Skyspace LA (opening April 2018)
For some serious rest-day healing and one of the most Instagrammable views in town, head to DTLA for this all-new wellness program, which takes place 1,000 feet above the ground atop the US Bank tower. Choose from meditation classes hosted by The Den, Pilates sessions led by Equinox trainers, R&B yoga, sound baths, and Reiki. Then, cap off the good vibes with a ride down Skyspace’s famed Skyslide, which is included in all class admission prices.

4. Gloveworx Century City
In my opinion, Gloveworx offers one of the hardest workouts in LA—like, I’m-gonna-hurl hard—but thanks to its team-based ethos and top-notch coaching team, it’s also one of the most fun. Like the OG studio in Santa Monica, the new second location is staffed by a crew of Olympic athletes and former boxing pros, who will lead you through circuits of cardio, functional strength training, bag work, and drills in the ring. (Or you can opt for a one-on-one or small-group class for more individualized, focused training.) Bonus: Once your exercise-induced nausea subsides, LA’s Eataly outpost is just a few steps away. I mean, that’s my kind of one-two punch….

LA’s first “self-discovery studio” isn’t just about exercising your physical body (although you’ll definitely do a lot of that)—its eclectic offerings promise to tune up your emotional and energetic bodies, too. Along with more traditional dance cardio and yoga sessions, Knockout also offers classes like Soul Remix, a hip-hop fueled meditation and journaling circle; Disruption, which combines breathwork, yoga, ecstatic movement, and meditation to release energetic blocks; and Arimany Method, designed to shift your electromagnetic field through rhythmic movement and vocal exercises. And not a moment too soon—it was only a matter of time before woo-woo wellness infiltrated our workouts, right?

6. Sweat Yoga Little Tokyo (opening March 2018)
After 3-plus years as the hot yoga destination on the Westside—and an expansion to NYC—Sweat Yoga’s kicking its growth engine into high gear. First up: A second LA outpost in Downtown’s Little Tokyo district, which will boast the same fanatical attention to air quality, temperature, and humidity as the original. (Music’s also taken super seriously—you’ll want to have your Shazaam app open during the entire class.) Locations in Westlake Village and Playa Vista are on deck for later this year, proving this is a brand that’s truly on fire.
7. The Wall (opening April 2018)
After hosting pop-up classes for the past year, celebrity trainer Jason Wimberly is finally preparing to open his 5,000-square-foot fitness mecca—and it’s definitely going to be worth the wait. LA’s first fully registered green fitness studio will feature its own juice bar, grab-and-go café, activewear shop, luxury locker rooms, and most importantly, an expanded roster of classes. Expect to find Wimberly’s signature “1-2-3 Stack” class format—a blend of core activation, high-intensity weight training, and cycling—plus resistance-only workouts, dance cardio, and fundamentals classes for beginners. (Pro tip: Try to plan your visit so you can take class with Wimberly himself, since he’s pretty much the most delightful trainer in the city.)

8. Lagree Fitness Studio Westwood
LA is the only place in the world where you can try out Sebastien Lagree’s patented Supra machine—you know, the Megaformer cousin that inclines and tilts like a carnival ride, turning you into a veritable puddle of sweat—and this summer, there’ll be a Westside location in which to do so. Like its sister studio in WeHo, the new outpost of Lagree Fitness Studio will soon offer Lagree’s signature 25-minute, full-body HIIT workout every half-hour. (The new Supras haven’t arrived yet, but you can take 50-minute Megaformer classes at this studio in the meantime.) The Supra workout promises to burn 400 calories in just one session—maybe that’s why it counts busy ladies like Rihanna, Jennifer Aniston, and Ashley Graham among its many fans.

9. One Down Dog Echo Park (opening April 2018)
Work up an appetite for your Honey Hi brunch at the newest addition to the One Down Dog family—the Eastside’s preeminent yoga empire. The studio’s killer playlists are what set it apart, featuring everything from EDM to pop and hip-hop, and the schedule’s packed with classes for every mood and ability level. Plus, check the workshop schedule for special events like tarot circles, sound baths, and classes by visiting instructors like Dana Falsetti.

This once-private gym inside DTLA’s InterContinental Hotel has just opened to the public—and not only does it look strikingly cool, but it also has a full schedule of boutique fitness classes. You can opt for a full length sweat sesh (yoga, barre, circuit training) or a 25-minute express offering focusing on core or glutes. It’s also the only place you’ll find power trainer Shay Kostabi’s signature class format, Elevate, which blends restorative movement and meditation with strength and cardio intervals.
