Venus Years Revolve Around Love and Relationships; Here’s What That Means for Your Sign

By mapping the planets’ movements, astrology can be used as a blueprint for what you might expect in your life daily, weekly, monthly, and annually. And this year, 2022, is considered a Venus year because of what the planet of love and relationships has been doing over the last few months.

Namely, 2022 kicked off in the middle of a Venus retrograde in Capricorn (a practical and goal-oriented Earth sign). That retrograde lasted from December 19, 2021, to January 29, encouraging people to kick off the year thinking about how they show up in matters of love. And though Venus is now direct (no planets are retrograde until April), this same Venusian energy applies to all of 2022, says astrologer Rachel Lang.

“The fact that we have Venus in Capricorn for this first part of the year really sets the whole year up for us being on these Venus-related themes.” —Rachel Lang, astrologer

“The fact that we have Venus in Capricorn moving slowly for this first part of the year [during its retrograde] really sets the whole year up for us being on these Venus-related themes,” says Lang. “Venus in Capricorn is a lot about creating stability, and commitment in relationships, so we're not taking things lightly.”

Lang adds that Venus in Capricorn energy welcomes thinking about how to invest resources when it comes to relationships—including, but certainly not limited to, finances. “Venus in Capricorn invites us to honor our money, honor our relationships, and invest our time, our energy, and our money wisely,” says Lang.

So, with 2022 being a Venus year, every sign can expect to focus on how they’re using the resources available to them—whatever those may be. Read on to learn what’s in store for your sign, specifically.

What you can expect from this Venus year, according to your sign

Aries

According to Lang, when Venus is in Capricorn, cardinal sign Aries gets more goal-oriented and starts to ponder what they want to achieve in their life. This often has Aries placing a large importance on work, sometimes at the expense of their personal life.

“You have to make time for love. You have to make time for connection,” says Lang, adding that connection and work-life balance are important themes for Aries during this Venus year for attracting good things.

Taurus

For Taurus, whose ruling planet is Venus, 2022 will activate a conscious goal-oriented energy, says Lang. “It's a year of cutting out and decluttering anything that isn't working for you in your life so that you can open yourself up to experiencing more joy.”

With practical matters also highlighted for Taurus during this Venus year, Lang says they might want to consider getting more familiar with what’s coming into (and what’s going out of) their bank account. “It's a year where you're creating a budget. You're working on making some solid investments,” says Lang. “It's also a year where you're going to want to be careful about how you're spending money, because it's about building and growing. You don't want to waste anything.”

Gemini

For the ever-so-curious Gemini, this Venus year is a time to have an inner monologue and determine where in their life they could use more balance, particularly with how they can up their financial wellness.

“It's a time when you want to be saving and really prioritizing what you're spending money on,” says Lang. “So thinking more about, ‘What experiences do I want to have?’ rather than ‘What things do I want to have?” is important, Lang adds.

Cancer

This could be a good year for Cancer in terms of love, says Lang, because the year starts and ends with Venus in its opposite zodiac sign of Capricorn. “Usually the opposite sign indicates other people and, specifically, our partners,” says Lang.

But remember that love comes from internal factors just as strongly as it does from external ones. “Life is opening a door for you to go deeper into an experience of love,” Lang says. “Self-love and love of others is a big Cancer theme [this year].”

Leo

One of the challenges for fire sign Leo with Venus-in-Capricorn energy is that things are less playful than they’d like (because Capricorn is such a no-nonsense sign). This means the first part of the year might feel more serious, having Leos evaluate how they create balance in different situations—like between work and play, hanging out with friends versus hanging out with a romantic partner, and spending time alone instead of being around others.

That said, once Venus enters their sign on August 11, the regal lion might expect romantic pursuits. “From August 11 to September 5, it's a time when love is a very strong feature,” says Lang.

Virgo

For Virgo, says Lang, there’s a real emphasis on romance during this Venus year. If you’re single and want to keep it that way for the foreseeable future, “this could be falling in love with life or opening yourself up to meeting new people and to having new experiences,” she says.

But what about if you’re in a relationship? “There might be relationship changes that align you to happiness and love,” says Lang. Regardless of relationship status, romance is a huge theme for Virgo in 2022—one which will support introspection and help you make light of difficult situations.

Libra

Libra is also ruled by Venus, which means they’re extra-influenced by the planet throughout 2022. Specifically, harmony-seeking Libras might want to create a sense of home this year to attract good things.

Whether that’s through connecting more with family members, healing family trauma to create healthier relationships, moving in with your romantic partner, or moving somewhere on your own, Libras want to make sure that they arrive at what makes them feel at home so that they can experience that feeling year-round.

Scorpio

Lang predicts 2022 to be interesting for Scorpio in terms of all things Venus. Specifically, Scorpio is poised for relationship changes, which can sometimes come out of the blue—like your ex coming back into your life or suddenly falling in love.

To attract good things, Scorpio should open their heart and be willing to adapt this year, which the planets will make easier for them to do, Lang says. Communication, open-mindedness, and open-heartedness are crucial for Scorpio to get what they want.

Sagittarius

Freedom-loving Sagittarius is another sign that can expect to focus more on money this year, says Lang. Whether you have debt you want to pay off, are hoping to get a raise, or are thinking about starting your own business, the 2022 Venus year is highly supportive.

But if you want good things to come, it's crucially important to actually do the work, Sagittarius. “Put in the work right now, and it will pay off significantly next year,” says Lang.

Capricorn

Relationships are a very big focus for Capricorn in 2022, says Lang, pointing out that we start and end 2022 with Venus in this sign. “This is a year for Capricorn to get serious and say, ‘We gotta change things’” that aren’t working, says Lang.

This year could also bring marriage, proposals, or Capricorn starting to go on dating apps even though they’ve resisted doing so in the past. If you want to attract positivity, now’s the time to “do the things that scare you,” says Lang, whether that’s online dating or otherwise.

Aquarius

For Aquarians, calling in positive energy is contingent upon fine-tuning what they’ll need in all of their relationships. This could cause some tension, says Lang, but it’s not inherently bad. “Everything feels a little more serious for Aquarius because Saturn is also in their sign,” says Lang. “We’ll see Aquarians not putting up with things that they put up with a year ago.”

And that goes for all of their relationships—personal, romantic, familial, professional, etc. “This is a time of saying, ‘Hell no,’ whether it's work or love or friendships,” Lang says, adding that Aquarians can step into their power and go for what they really want this year.

Pisces

Jupiter, the planet of luck, will be moving through Pisces during most of 2022, says Lang. That means Pisces has great power to manifest dreams and goals. But you have to know what you want in order to go for it.

“Being intentional is a really big theme for Pisces this year,” says Lang. To make sure that actions, intentions, and outcomes are aligned, Lang suggests that Pisces thinks about what an ideal life looks like for them. From there, be critical of what you’re saying ‘yes’ to, Pisces. “It's a year where everything feels possible,” Lang says. “But because of that, Pisces has to be very focused on what they want, so that they don't just open themselves up to everything.”
