You Can Help Donate Meals This Holiday Season Just by Tracking Your Workouts on This Free App

The holiday season is here and with it comes tidings of good cheer. (See what we did there?) Whether it’s heading to one of the many kitschily-decorated Christmas bars and sipping on a seasonal cocktail, strolling through handmade holiday markets, or simply taking in the crispness of the air while checking out the tackiest (and most beautiful) lights in your city, there’s no denying that this time of year can bring out the wonder in all of us.

It might even inspire you to not only shop for yourself and loved ones, but to find ways to give back to your community, too. And news flash: It doesn’t have to cost you any extra cash—just a little sweat and a new app on your smartphone.

Say hello to Vizer, a free app that encourages users to get up and get active. When you download the app (which is available on iOS and Android devices) you can track qualifying activities, like walking 10,000 steps, exercising for 30 minutes, or taking a class at a partner studio, like Orangetheory Fitness. Once an activity is logged, you can click Donate and the folks at Vizer work with U.S. food banks to donate a meal in your honor to populations in need. Then you can rinse and repeat, doing it all over again the next day to donate another meal. (You just have to click the Donate button before midnight because the app refreshes each day and donation meals don’t roll over.)

That's not all: For every meal donated, you earn one point. Vizer points can be redeemed on health-forward brands like Vita Coco, Core Foods, and Olipop at local participating partners, which you can find in the app. They’re listed in proximity to your location, so you won’t have to search all over for somewhere to redeem. That said, since Vizer is still relatively new, its in-person offerings are most abundant in major metro areas.

Needless to say, if you’ve ever needed a little extra motivation to go on a hot girl walk, meditate and move through the primary series of Ashtanga yoga, or book an All Out With Aoki class at your local Orangetheory studio, Vizer is here to help.
