Found! the Peter Kavinsky-Approved Yogurt From “to All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”
For those of you who haven't yet been entranced by the flat-out adorbs flick, it first pops up in a scene where the devastatingly handsome golden boy, Peter Kavinsky, asks the little sister of his love interest (Lara Jean) to try her "Korean yogurt smoothie." He's totally wowed by the snack and later shows how thoughtful he is by scoring some for Lara Jean himself.
Cue the internet-wide search for the IRL version. And thanks to its distinctive red cap, the vendor has been identified! It's actually not a Korean brand—it's a company founded in Japan called Yakult Honsha Co., which produces a variety of probiotic beverages, which are now "flying off the shelves" in the US, according to Bloomberg News.
So, how does it stack up nutritionally? One bottle of Yakult (sold at these supermarkets) contains 50 calories and 11 grams of sugar that come from sucrose. The "Yakult Light" version is slightly healthier with only 30 calories and 4 grams of sugar that are sourced from Stevia, a sweetener that doesn't raise your insulin or glucose levels. It also boasts some serious gut benefits, which you can attribute to the lactobacillus casei shirota probiotic strain that has been found to improve the function of gastrointestinal symptoms and bolster immune function.
Since Peter K. makes a point of sipping kombucha instead of beer at a party later in the movie, the dreamboat seems to have an affinity for squeezing digestive-enhancing bacteria in whenever and wherever he can. So perhaps this a sign that we should all be updating out online dating profiles to says something like, "Probiotic-lover" or "A little scoby never hurt nobody." Maybe then the Kavinskys of this world will start (*fingers crossed*) cropping up outside of your streaming queue?
