Zoe Saldana’s Hack for Covering up Breakouts Is Genius

Usually, celebrities don't have to worry about covering their own pimples—they can just hop into a chair and get some expert help from a makeup artist.

Zoe Saldana, on the other hand, is uber-resourceful. She grew up in the Dominican Republic, where she and her family literally milked coconuts for all they're worth (and obviously they're worth a lot), according to Byrdie. Along the way, she gained other smart beauty tricks (besides using coconut oil for everything).

So when she gets a pimple or her skin's not showing its usual level of radiance, Saldana knows just what to do—and no, she doesn't just put her Avatar costume back on.

"It makes me feel beautiful and bold and in control of myself."

"If I’m having a bad day or if I feel like my skin isn’t looking its best, a red lip is my go-to," says Saldana. "It makes me feel beautiful and bold and in control of myself."

And she's not just getting a vibrant pout—she's working her self-confidence in a major way, too. "A red lip was something that a lot of males in my life didn’t like because they didn’t like the attention it attracted, or they thought it was too loud," says Saldana. "But I’m okay with wanting to be loud for all the right reasons. I’m all about empowering women and making bold decisions. I think that a red lip is that sign, saying, ‘I’m here—take me as I am.’”

Amen—work it and distract from a blemish? Genius.
