This past year, the natural beauty world launched some serious super trends. We're talking superfood-infused skin-care products, floral essence-powered facial mists on all the cool girls' desks, athleisure-inspired, sweat-friendly makeup to match your active lifestyle—plus product launches galore.
And all of this happened in lock step with the rise of cleaner beauty counters, which isn't slowing down anytime soon. (Organic beauty is slated to grow to over $13 billion by 2018, according to a market report.)
So what are the next big trends coming to take over your non-toxic cosmetics bag in 2017? Hint: expect some crystals, inflammation-fighters, and probiotics in your beauty regimen.
Keep reading for the 9 big things trending in beauty this year—and get ready to fill your shopping cart for glowy days ahead.
1. Inflammation-fighting beauty products
The dreaded "I" word isn't just something to steer clear of in your diet—it's also an enemy of your skin. That's why more beauty products are being specifically designed to address the inflammation issue, which is behind things like acne, redness, and even premature signs of aging. "If you can feed your body with anti–inflammatories, why not your skin?" says Annie Jackson, vice president of merchandising and planning at Credo Beauty.

2. Hyaluronic acid
The super-light moisturizing ingredient is rising to fame, much like its naturally-occurring sister, collagen. "Hyaluronic acid is a staple of many beauty products," says Credo's Jackson. "It's so beneficial and acts as an effective powerhouse ingredient." Consider it your go-to glow enhancer.

3. Lip-to-cheek multitaskers
Marie Kondo's decluttering lifestyle has infiltrated the beauty mindset—with a demand for all-in-one lip-to-cheek products. Starting with cult-fave RMS (and a growing number of brands like W3LL PEOPLE and Tata Harper to Rituel de Fille), "customers are looking for multitasking powerhouse products that do it all. We're seeing customers using them for cheeks, eyes, and lips," says Jackson.

4. Crystal-infused skin care
As woo-woo wellness becomes mainstream, it's no surprise crystals are showing up in more places than your favorite spa. Beauty brands like Laurel, Earthling, and Cosmos are incorporating gemstone essences to add spiritual oomph to your skin care. Credo's Jackson is excited about one created by an energy medicine practitioner called Tony & Tina Vibrational Remedies. "We're definitely seeing the crystal's rise to fame."

5. Transforming beauty boosters
If you already find yourself hacking your beauty products, you'll be excited about this tailored-to-you trend. "We're getting further from one-size-fits-all skin care, with hyper-targeted add-ons to fit your specific concerns," explains Tara Foley, founder of beauty chainlet Follain. Prepare to see products that amplify and transform what you're already using, like True Botanicals Vitamin C Booster and Tammy Fender Capillary Strengthening Blend that you mix with your moisturizer for more custom results, and Farmaesthetics Sweet Milk & Lavender Exfoliant, which Foley likes because it transforms your cleanser into an exfoliant.

6. Glossy lids
When it comes to color, it's all about cream-based makeup (AKA plant and nut butters)—especially on the eyes. "Our most requested items right now are looks and products for glossy lids," says Jackson. "This is a beautiful look for anyone, and—coming out of the cold winter months—it gives your skin a fresh, dewy look." All you need is a swipe from your finger for an effortless, glowy touch of color.

7. Probiotics on your face
Probiotics aren't just good for your gut—this year, the healthy bacteria's wellness benefits are hitting your skin-care products. "There's a big focus right now on maintaining the delicate microbiome of the skin, which helps protects you from breakouts related to [bad] bacterial overgrowth," says Follain founder Foley. She likes these in mist form, like the balancing True Botanicals Nutrient Mist and anti-aging Laurel Facial Elixir, which you layer under your products and can use anytime throughout the day.
If you only get one item, make it this: Aurelia Miracle Cleanser, $62
8. Color-protecting hair products
Hair products have been a little behind in the clean beauty space—but you'll see more natural hair products than ever emerge this year, especially in terms of color protection. "We're going to see a lot more cleaner, greener hair color innovation from brands like Hairprint and others," confirms Foley. "Natural hair-care companies are wising up to the fact that some women want to color their hair, but then use clean hair products."

9. Vegan beauty
Conscientious beauty is on the rise, with leading brands like Meow Meow Tweet, Osea skin care, and Axiology that cater to the ethical consumer. "More customers are asking for vegan products," says Foley, who defines these as anything that's not derived from an animal (think anything from animal fat and musk to dairy milk and beeswax) and it's understood that no animals were harmed during production. Foley says many brands are also making adjustments to their already-green formulations to respond to the demand—so watch for the vegan movement to expand beyond the food world.
