The wholesale cost of avocados has dropped more than 6 percent from earlier this month, Bloomberg reports. (Before that, prices for Hass avocados from Mexico had more than doubled this year alone.)

That's great news for fans of the wellness-savvy staple, in everything from pizza and yogurt to chocolate bars, brownies, and Oreos. (Not to mention that they're beloved by celebrities, they have entire restaurants dedicated to them—and even have their own ready-for-ripening outfits.)
You've probably noticed that prices have been going way up over the past couple of years (as in, your local "5 for $5" signs were replaced by "$3.50 each" labels). But now—thanks to some good weather, growing cycles, and an influx from California and Mexico—prices are showing signs of a reprieve.
It helps that consumers are eating—or drinking (ahem, avolatte)—more of the healthy-fat-laden fruit than ever before. According to the USDA, Americans ate 7.1 pounds of avocados each in the 2015–2016 season (guilty!). That's more than double the amount people were consuming a decade earlier (again, guilty). But don't expect penny avocados anytime soon.
"Prices in the foreseeable future will stabilize a little, and you won't see a sharp incline," Roberg Bonghi, director of procurement and pricing at the Product Alliance, tells Bloomberg. "Growers are trying to put more trees in the ground to keep up, but you're not going to see 10 avocados for a dollar."
Still, any break is a bonus for the avo-toast-addicted. "It just seems like there's a really good vibe around avocados," Rick Shade, an avocado grower, says. "I'd hate to be the wheat farmer who produced the wheat bread for the underneath, because no one's talking about him. Everyone's talking about my avocado on top."
