Ever since my mom let me wear lipstick for Picture Day in the first grade, I’ve been enamored by it it. I’ve always loved how it can transform my face in one swipe (especially reds) and can brighten my mood instantly. I can confidently say that lipstick would be my desert island makeup item, even beating out liquid eyeliner—there’s just so much power in a good lipstick! Which brings me to Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick. Ever since I got my hands on a sample of it (specifically a red shade called American Doll), I’ve been wearing it non-stop. If you’ve seen my extremely crowded lipstick collection (which consists of bursting drawers, a pink rotating carousel holder, and the random tubes strewn about my apartment and hiding in various purses), then you know this is a serious romance.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte & Satin Velvet Lipstick — $23.00
The lipstick comes in a rose-gold tube, which makes it look gorgeous and luxe right off the bat. It also snaps closed fast and easy (so many other tubes I own close via magnet, which tends to come apart just as fast). Upon application, I noticed that it went on super velvety and smooth, and didn’t “catch” on lips as some other ones do. Now, let’s get to the actual color! American Doll is described by the brand as a classic matte red, which I found to be true, though it leans more towards a brighter, slightly orange undertone, which I love. For those who prefer a blue-toned red, Royal Red is the one for you.
It’s so richly pigmented that it required only one swipe. No going over to fill in any missing lipstick potholes. And again, the velvet feel got me. It feels lightweight enough that I’ll sometimes forget I’m wearing it. It’s long-lasting and still intact hours later, though I haven’t tested it while eating a big burrito or anything like that yet. One thing to note about the lipstick, like most, it’s not maskproof (I’ve found only out there really that can truly withstand mask-wearing, and most are liquid), so keep that in mind if you forget you’re wearing it and throw one on!
All in all, this lipstick has become my new favorite. It has everything you’d want in a lip color: gorgeous color payoff, a lightweight formula that doesn’t dry out your lips, pretty packaging that makes anywhere you store it look fancy, and a great variety of shades to choose from (there are 18 total). Plus, you can pick up the corresponding lip liner for more definition. American Doll would go great with the brand’s Cherry lip liner. Now, all I need is another Picture Day to show off my lipstick.
