Makeup Artists Call Green Concealer Your ‘Secret Weapon’ for Making Facial Redness Instantly Invisible During the Colder Months
When you're prone to redness, you may notice that your face flushes far more easily during the winter months. Everything from cold air to high wind to low humidity can cause your skin to turn crimson, plus, "our skin also goes through quick temperature changes from the cold outdoors to the heat indoors, which can also activate a flush in the skin," explains Neil Scibelli, a celebrity makeup artist in New York City.
If you don't love this rouge-ified look, sometimes regular foundation and concealer aren't enough to cover it up. According to Scibelli, nstead of caking on complexion-colored makeup to try and mask it, your best bet is to counteract it with something green.
"Green color correctors can be a great primer under your concealer, foundation, or even on its own along with a moisturizer, to really neutralize any redness," says Scibeli. "Color correcting references the color wheel and plays off of opposite colors in order to neutralize or change the colors desired. Green neutralizes redness, so it works great to counteract redness even on the skin."

“This anti-redness face primer is an overall great universal green color corrector,” says Scibelli. “The product is super fluid so you can really blend it in, especially since hydrating as well.”
“This Neutrogena color corrector is my go-to for zeroing in on that color correction since it’s in a convenient wand form,” says Scibelli. “It also contains niacinamide which works to calm and soothe redness in the skin as well. This one is great for zeroing in on any red blemishes, as well as the cheeks, around the nose, and so on.”
“Exa’s High Fidelity color correcting concealer is a slightly deeper green tone so it really blends effortlessly into medium to deeper skin tones to counteract redness,” says Scibelli.
“Hero’s Rescue Balm with red correct is great for red, dry winter skin because it contains panthenol and peptides, so it helps to soothe the skin at the same time,” says Scibelli.
