Makeup Artists Don’t Go a Day Without Using These 7 Lip Balms for Thin Lips
In the last decade, big, plump-ified lips have been à la mode (see: Kendall Jenner and Angelina Jolie). But as far as I'm concerned, it's about time us thin-lipped folks get the beauty respect we deserve. And thus, I asked celebrity makeup artists to open up their vanities and name the best tinted lip balms for thin lips.
Whether you reach for nudes or bright reds, glossy or matte finishes, you'll find a balm below that's right for you. While there are a few lip plumpers in the mix, there are also options for those of us who are cool with our meager lip line—but just yearn for a little pop of color.

The 7 best tinted lip balms for thin lips, according to makeup artists
“The best lip plumper, in my opinion—which I use every morning and night and with every client—is the Lawless Lip Plumping Mask,” says Hailey Hoff, makeup artist to Hailee Steinfeld and Sofia Richie. “They just came out with their second flavor [Cherry Vanilla] that is more of a pinky red. I normally use the watermelon flavor [Sweet Dreams].”
One of these sleeping masks are purchased every three seconds, and for good reason, says celebrity makeup artist Judi Gabbay. “Although it’s advertised as a sleeping mask, I use Laneige Lip Sleeping masks throughout the day as well. It helps hydrate quickly, stays put, smells delicious, and plumps to bring life back to any dry lips,” she says.
“Whether it be their tinted or their clear lip balm, Summer Fridays knows how to make the perfect product to plump and moisturize lips while also adding the perfect color,” says makeup artist Shadi Malek. Snag this particular product in vanilla or vanilla beige.
“If you’re looking a product to give you a fuller pout, try Givenchy’s Rose Perfecto Lip Balm. It boasts 24 hour hydration and customizes to your PH level for that perfect pink,” says Gabbay. It also comes in 10 shades that range from light pink to deep red.
These lip balms are divine; they are so hydrating and their shade range can be dressed up or dressed down. I have this in every color,” says Malek. W+G’s senior commerce editor agrees—it’s the first tinted lip balm that actually behaves like an actual lip balm (versus a lipstick that’s slightly more hydrating), yet gives you a true pop of color (her favorite is “Lullaby,” which is a subtle rosy red).
This classic plumping lip balm is a favorite of Gabbay’s, and comes in four versatile shades. “For those who love to feel the plump, try Buxom’s Power-Full Plump Lip Balm. It has a slight cooling effect and customizes the shade to your lips pH level for a light flush of color and fullness,” she says.
“This lip balm is another product that I find myself gravitating to because it plumps up my lips and makes them look kissable and fresh, while also hydrating them from within,” says Malek. “I love how Charlotte Tilbury has the Iconic Pillow talk color in a lip balm version.” As someone who personally own this lip balm, I can vouch for its plumping, hydrating hyaluronic superpowers.
