If You Only Add One Color to Your Activewear Wardrobe This Fall, Make It Cranberry

You know the saying, new season, new workout wardrobe, right? Okay, perhaps I made it up. But as I find myself in a time of transitional dressing, my focus is shifting to new fall activewear. Surveying the landscape of new collections, one color keeps appearing: cranberry.

Not only is the punchy, purple-y red hue fresh for autumn, it's brilliant during the in-between time when the sunshiny spirit of summer remains. First spotted in the fall collections of brands like Alo Yoga, cranberry's also been introduced at emerging labels including Alala and Nagnata from tops to bras and leggings. “It's rich and smoky and looks amazing on every skin tone,” says Alala's founder, Denise Lee.

In the red family, cranberry is an easier-to-wear color than trendy pastels and neon shades or nude and white workout clothes and feels right for autumn when the mood shifts from sprightly to a little more luxe. “Cranberry feels very soulful and elevates the tactile feelings of velvets and jewels, which we just love as the weather starts to cool,” Lee adds.

If black workout clothes are your safe space like me, the hue du jour is a cool compliment.

If you’re in to maximalism, a head-to-toe cranberry look is definitely for you—whether you opt for a matching set, color block design, or mesh detailing. If black workout clothes are your safe space like me, the hue du jour is a cool compliment. “I think a cranberry look is really strong with black shoes and accessories,” Lee says. “If you want something a little less bold, I think cranberry looks amazing with charcoal grey or a rich chocolate brown, in addition to classic black.”

From bras to crop tops and leggings, shop eight cranberry-colored pieces ahead.
