I’m a morning workout person. I’ve been that way for well over a decade now—rising each weekday morning between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. to hit the gym or go for a run outside. (And no, it’s never gotten any easier.)

But there’s one thing that helps get me psyched up each morning: music. Over the years, I’ve made tons of playlists, and I’m constantly on the hunt for new music. (Seriously, if you want to follow, I create new lists of tunes frequently, and the recent ones are here.) I know that getting out of bed is hard, but once I hit the treadmill or the weight room and I’ve got some good beats thumping, I’ll instantly feel more awake and glad that I showed up.

My focus on music has led me to be something of a headphone snob. I stuck to wired headphones for years after Bluetooth ones were initially introduced because I hated the connectivity issues. And as much as I love my Apple AirPods for work, they’ve never fit quite right when running.

Enter the Beats earbuds. For years, I wore the Beats Powerbeats4—an older generation model that still had a wire and slipped over the ear. They were magic, and I was hesitant to give them up. (You know that workout adage about eschewing first-time trials during big moments—“nothing new on race day”? I’m more of the mindset: Nothing new ever once I find equipment or gear that I like.) Suffice it to say, I had high expectations.

Luckily, the Beats Fit Pro True Wireless earbuds live up to the hype. These earbuds fit snugly in my ears and never budge, no matter how much I’m running, jumping, or moving. I simply pop them into each ear and fit the “ear wing” into the folds of my ear—and they don’t move an inch.

The sound quality is also fantastic. You’ve got the option on these to turn on a noise-cancelling feature, or be aware of surrounding sounds. Typically, I leave the noise-cancelling feature turned off—and it still does a pretty good job of blocking out the low hum of the gym. A single charge on the earbuds gets me through at least one week of use (the specs indicate you’ll get 6 hours of listening time, and 24 hours when combined with the charging case); and I’ve never had these short out or glitch—even during my sweatiest workouts.

Finally, there’s the color. In a sea of black electronic devices, I love that these pop. The bright yellow color makes them easy to spot, and I feel like I get a mini dopamine boost each time I glance at them. My other color recs would be purple and pink.

Grab a pair for yourself—or for the runner in your life—and enjoy the instant upgrade to your workouts.
