The pursuit of whiter teeth has traditionally meant giving up coffee and red wine, or investing in a pricey treatment at the hands of a professional—two things that I, personally, have no interest in doing. So when I heard that Crest 3D White Professional Effects ($48), which are readily available at the CVS across the street from my apartment, had the dentist stamp of approval, I knew I had to try them out for myself.

While my teeth aren't necessarily yellow, per se, every time I see them in photos I can't help but think "I wish they were just a little bit whiter," so I decided to take these drugstore diamonds for a spin leading up to my best friend's wedding. The brand purports that it can remove up to 14 years' worth of staining and give you a whiter smile after just three days of use, which was exactly what I needed ahead of the event.

The first thing that made me fall in love with the white strips was how easy they were to use. All I had to do was stick them on my teeth (the box includes 20 single-use packages with strips for both your top and bottom rows), and wait 30 minutes for them to work their magic. What really sealed the deal for me, though, is that my teeth looked immediately brighter after only a single half-hour session—and still looked just as white the next morning. After three days, there was a noticeable difference in the color of my smile, to the point where people started asking what dentist I'd been to for the treatment. The box also includes two "express," which deliver maximum brightness after only an hour (you better believe I used one of those babies before the ceremony).

What makes the strips work so well is the fact that though they use hydrogen peroxide to amp up your pearly whites, they're totally fine for use on sensitive teeth—I didn't feel any irritation on my teeth or gums, even after using them for three days in a row. They've also got a non-slip grip, which helps them stay put so that you can talk and drink water while you're wearing them. The results also really last: Even after a month, my smile still looks way whiter than it did before my three-day treatment regimen.

So though my coffee and wine drinking habits haven't changed (and, let's be honest, probably won't be changing any time soon), my teeth no longer have to bear the brunt of their effects. And the best part? In honor of Black Friday, you can try these babies out for yourself for up to 38 percent off of their usual price.
