From the app that brought us the deliciously viral recipes for baked feta pasta, vegan banana splits, and salmon bowls (TikTok, obvs) comes the latest viral food craze: custard toast. If you're wondering WTF that is, here's a quick rundown. It's basically baked French toast with the addition of yogurt, which brings extra protein to the table.

To make it, simply whisk yogurt, an egg, and sweetener and/or spices together, spoon the mixture atop a piece of bread, pile on your toppings, and bake in the oven for about 10 minutes. Hungry yet? Same. To try out the custard toast trend, we'd recommend using this recipe from Yumna Jawad of Feel Good Foodie because it's easy, healthy, and delicious.

The best part about custard toast is how customizable it is. You can use pretty much any type of yogurt, so you can get in on the deliciousness if you're plant-based. Greek yogurt packs the most protein with 16 grams per half-cup serving, but you can still get around six grams of protein if you pick up the right non-dairy yogurt alternative.

The egg and yogurt mixture needs a little something for flavor if you're using plain yogurt, and the possibilities of what you can whisk in are endless. In Jawad's recipe, she uses cinnamon and honey. Juwad also suggests trying maple syrup, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and/or orange zest to make your "custard" more flavorful. You can even mix in a nut butter, which adds even more protein.

Next, the toppings. TBH, this toast is a great vehicle for just about any sliced fruit. Juwad uses strawberries in her recipe, but adds that raspberries, blueberries, peaches, nectarines, apples, pears, plums or persimmons also work. Hello, antioxidants. If you're not feeling fruit, TikTok has plenty of inspiration, like the chocolate chips in this recipe or this savory version of the toast. But to keep it classic, find Jawad's full custard toast recipe below.
