Few things in life are as satisfying as a plush, luxe bath towel set. You know the kind I'm talking about—the towels that are so thick and cushy, they instantly transport you to a 5-star spa each and every time you use them. The secret for such luxury comes from their fabric, which doesn't just feel nicer, but is actually healthier on skin and hair as well. As board-certified dermatologist Stacy Chimento, MD, of Riverchase Dermatology in Miami previously told us, not all towels are created equal. It all comes down to material choice.

"Many people don't realize how abrasive towels can be on the skin, depending on the force with which you rub them over your skin," Dr. Chimento said. Because of this, they'll rub down with a scratchy, rough towel, disrupting their skin barrier as a result. "But this force, paired with a tough material, can actually strip the skin of its essential oils, which can lead to drier skin that irritates more easily."

Rather than buying just any old towel set, upgrade to a Turkish cotton or microfiber kit. "For the body, you want to make sure the fabric is gentle, durable, and absorbent," saids Dr. Chimento. "Materials like microfiber and cotton (including Turkish cotton), are the most popular fabrics for face cloths, and they are also good options for full-size towels for the body."

Ready to upgrade your bath towel game? Below are luxe, derm-approved towel sets that'll leave your hair and skin baby-soft, without breaking the bank.

Soft, spa-worthy towel sets for less than $100

Aestate, Bath Towel Pair — $95.00

Have you ever worn a cloud? Me neither. But I imagine if I did, it would feel just like this plush Aestate bath towel. These high-pile towels are the definition of luxe, guaranteed to dry you off in maximum comfort. They’re made from derm-approved, OEKO-TEX certified cotton, which you and your skin will love.

Brooklinen, Waffle Bath Towels — $59.00

You know Brooklinen for its internet-famous sheets, but did you know it mades dreamy towels, too? These Turkish cotton towels swap the pile for a super absorbent waffle knit that sucks up moisture in the softest way possible. For just $60, you get two light-but-cozy towels that’ll turn your bathroom into something spa-worthy.

Sunday Citizen, Plush Towel Set — $95.00

Sunday Citizen plush towels are marketed as “a post-shower hug,” which is some of the most accurate advertising I’ve ever seen. These towels are so soft and slightly oversized—a recipe for all-over cuddliness. To complete your spa-look, buy a Sunday Citizen robe or sleep mask while you’re at it, too.

August & Leo, Luxe 6-Piece Turkish Cotton Towel Set — $87.00

Step into a Red Door Spa every time you step out of the shower with this heavenly Turkish cotton set. They’re made using the brands “Coresoft” technology, aka, there’s extra volume and absorbency in each piece. Each set includes two bath towels, two hand towels, and two wash cloths, all available in pastels that look pretty no matter where they hang.

Kitsch, Towel Scrunchies (Pack of 2) — $18.00

Skip the towel flip and dry your hair with these convenient towel scrunchies from Kitsch. Made of the brand’s fan-favorite microfiber, they absorb moisture and keep your hair out of your face at the same time. The buttery microfiber is gentle on all hair types, too, leaving hair smoother, shinier, and silkier in a few twists.

Enchante Home, 6-Piece Ria Turkish Cotton Bath Towel Set — $80.00

Another 6-piece set that’ll give you the best bang for your buck is this Turkish cotton set from Enchante Home, which you can find at retailers like Target and Bed Bath & Beyond. Instead of a high-pile, they’re weaved in a jacquard pattern that feels soft against skin while sucking up water. This weave looks expensive, but for $80, it’s a budget-friendly upgrade to any bathroom.

Makroteks, 6-Piece LaRue Turkish Cotton Bath Towel Set — $45.00

Another Target find, these geometric jacquard towels look trendy and get the job done. They’re crafted with a twisted yarn technology to allow for better absorbency without compromising on comfort. Plus, they come in a palette of modern colors, allowing you to mix and match as you please.

Ecotools, Hair Towel Gift Set (Pack of 2) — $10.00

These frothy microfiber hair towels are just $10, giving you good reason to stock up for you and a friend. Unlike normal cotton, the microfiber is super soft against hair tendrils, preventing breakage and stopping frizz while sucking out excess moisture. When you’re done, pop them in the wash until the next go-round.
