Diane Von Furstenberg Wants You to Use Instagram As a Diary

There are plenty of reasons to use Instagram: You can go ogle cute puppies, get healthy meal inspo, find new decor for your apartment, and even connect with new friends. One of the best reasons though, at least in designer Diane von Furstenberg's mind, is to track your memories.

While keeping a diary or a journal offers a host of benefits, social media is the easy, techy way to make a record of your thoughts, feelings, and cool things you do every day with the press of a button (just in a form that's not for your eyes only). And Von Furstenberg is into embracing it as a mixed-media memoir of sorts.

"Keep a diary—it can be a visual diary like Instagram or a written one—because you’ll be so happy to look back and read the adventure of your life. Live life fully and don’t be afraid to push the doors that are open." —Diane von Furstenberg

"Keep a diary—it can be a visual diary like Instagram or a written one—because you’ll be so happy to look back and read the adventure of your life," Von Furstenberg told Vogue. "Live life fully and don’t be afraid to push the doors that are open."

Mindfully regarding Instagram as a diary might be a way minimize the negative effects that social media can beget without barring you from also sharing photos of drool-worthy meals. And if you don't want the entire world to get an inside look into your private life, you can always create a separate, private account for whenever you want to take a scroll down memory lane.
