Over the years, Ellie Goulding has learned to nourish her body in a way that fuels her love of exercise. Whether she's streaming an online yoga class or hitting up Barry's Bootcamp, one of the main things the artist credits to helping her become a better workout warrior is a diet full of plant-based nutrition.

The musician has been a vegetarian for six years and is working toward becoming a full-fledged vegan, but she doesn't compromise getting healthy doses of vitamins and protein. Her favorite method for getting a nutrition-packed meal? Through a veggie-loaded smoothie, first thing in the morning.

"I try to get my greens in very quickly, all in one go. As soon as I got into making smoothies, I realized how many different things you could add to boost them," Goulding told The Cut. "Being vegetarian opens you up to so much more, as you think more about wellness and better ways to get your protein other than meat."

To get that boost, she typically sticks to several superfood ingredients. "I try and have a smoothie every day; it’s really filling with protein powder. I love using Vega, because it's vegan and tastes fantastic, and maca powderSpirulina doesn’t taste great but can easily be masked by a banana and some almond butter."

The blends—full of protein, vitamins, potassium, iron, and calcium—are great ways to not only get in as much vegan nutrition as possible into one meal, but they can also fuel you through the day. Who needs meat when you have a few handfuls of kale mixed with plant-based protein, anyway?
