The latter half of the Harry Potter film franchise was made infinitely better with the unique presence of Luna Lovegood, the animal-rights activist we’d all love to have as a Hogwarts BFF. And last week, actress Evanna Lynch (the IRL Lovegood) announced “50 points for Gryffindor”-worthy news: She’s celebrating her love of fantastical creatures by conjuring a cruelty-free beauty box, set to launch sometime this year.
Lynch, who recently partnered with Peta2—the world’s largest youth animal rights group—to speak up about animal testing, shared the update on her Instagram Stories. “I’m very passionate about animals, and I also love makeup. And I do not believe that the two should intersect,” she says. “I don’t think you should need to use animals for makeup. However, that is the way the industry is at the moment.”

Additionally, the vegan star has taken to the Instagram airwaves with a survey to crowdsource exactly what you, furry-friend-loving Potterhead, would like to unpack on a reoccurring basis. It’s basically your opportunity to say, “Accio (harm-free) eyeliner, perfume, or eye cream, straight to my doorstep!” No magic wand needed.
The Irish actress isn’t, ahem, flying solo on the cruelty-free issue, either. About 72 percent of Americans oppose testing cosmetics products on the 100 million cats, dogs, monkeys, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other animals that are killed annually for that purpose, according to a 2011 report from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. So what’s holding society back from doing something about it? “I think it’s something that we all know, but it’s harder to put into practice, so this is where the beauty box comes in and is going to help,” Lynch adds.
