Pretty much everyone calls kale their best friend these days. But in the near future, kids will literally, actually, call their best friends Kale.

That’s because, according to Gothamist, 262 people named their newborn baby Kale in 2013.

California, of course, had the highest concentration of kale kids.

The supergreen has literally exceeded the realm of nutrition facts and flavor and reached the point of cultural touchstone. It’s this generation’s answer to all those ’60s babies named “Rainbow.”

All we can say is that one of those kids should really hook up with Apple at some point. Together, they’d make a great green juice, er, couple.—Lisa Elaine Held
