The combos make sense, he says, because they’re all ways of disconnecting from the frenetic pace of everyday life and using your senses to help you slow down and enjoy life.
“Every single day, you have to experience at least one really delicious, amazing moment,” he explains. We’re absolutely down for that.
Here’s what the relaxed, renowned yogi and foodie keeps in his fridge:
Okay, let’s start with the obvious. What in the world is a Sushi Shaker? The sushi shaker is from Whole Foods Market. My wife and I both work long hours and try to keep healthy, prepared foods on hand in our refrigerator. This particular item has all of the components of a sushi roll except in a salad.
Genius. I can’t believe I’ve never seen one! And what’s hiding in the big jar behind it? The big jar is full of nettle tea. We steep it overnight and then keep it in our refrigerator for days at a time. It’s a natural stabilizer and super grounding.
How about in the cardboard boxes on the top shelf? Takeout? Yes, from Whole Foods…one is roasted brussels sprouts, the other is an herb-stuffed red pepper.
Yum. You have lots of bags of greens. Do you just buy an assortment or do you have specific favorites? We have a farmers’ market at the end of our block in the East Village, so on the weekend we try to stock up on kale, collard greens, Swiss chard, and fruit that’s in season.
You also have tons of lemons. What do you do with all of those? I love lemon on EVERYTHING.
Fair enough. Now, to the chocolate! I can’t tell what kind you have. Tell us what it is and what kinds are your favorite. The chocolate is Vosges Haut-Chocolat, which I have been using in my Yoga + Chocolate events for years. My two favorites right now are the Crispy Carrot Bar (crunchy carrot confit, Valencia oranges, 45 percent cacao deep milk chocolate) and the Peanut Butter Bon Bon Bar (peanut butter, pink Himalayan salt, Maldon sea salt, deep milk chocolate). There’s nothing like chocolate after yoga because when you’re relaxed, your sensory perception is heightened, and a bite of chocolate literally becomes a symphony of flavor. —Lisa Elaine Held
