Yoga and fitness classes that benefit hurricane relief efforts (and your sanity)

New York City's yoga and fitness studios are stepping up to help with the hurricane relief by hosting benefit classes and collecting donations.

All of Bend & Bloom’s weekend classes in Park Slope, Brooklyn, will benefit hurricane relief.

Our beloved city and its residents seriously need a hand right now, and yoga and fitness studios across the five boroughs are stepping up to host benefit classes and collect donations.

And while you’ll be helping those who are struggling, you’ll also be treating yourself to some needed time to de-stress and look after yourself.

Here are lots of wellness-style ways to help out in the coming week, and beyond:


Pedal NYC (Upper West Side) is collecting clothing and jackets, which they’ll drop off at donation sites.

Through the end of the year, Sacred Sounds Yoga (Soho) is donating all proceeds from its community classes on Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. to the American Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. $5,

The Flatiron’s Sangha House will have boxes set up to collect warm winter clothing, sheets and blankets, baby items, and non-perishable food items.

Yoga 216 (West Chelsea) will donate proceeds from weekly Win Win donation-based classes to hurricane relief efforts. Tuesdays at 2:16-3:16 p.m.,


Sonic Yoga (Hell’s Kitchen) hosts a class taught by Lori McAlister to benefit the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund with live music provided by Jeff Liffman. 6:30–7:45 p.m., $19,


Bend and Bloom (Park Slope, Brooklyn) is donating 25 percent of the proceeds from all of its weekend classes to Masbia Soup Kitchen. It provides meals for the Park Slope Armory where the city’s elderly, disabled, and other special needs hurricane victims are being transferred and housed. All Saturday and Sunday classes, $18 for single class,

Tuck and tone for 90 minutes at Physique 57’s Upper West Side location with Lindi and Rachel to benefit the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund. 12:30–2:00 p.m., $57,

Reflections Yoga (Midtown West) is hosting a free community gathering with a yoga class and meditation led by founder Paula Tursi, and it includes light food and drinks. This event doesn’t have an built-in benefit aspect, but we suggest donating what you normally would have paid for class to the relief efforts. Noon–1:30 p.m., free,


Yoga Union (Flatiron) is hosting a 90-minute all-levels yoga class with 45 minutes of uplifting flow and 45 minutes of restorative poses taught by Patricia Maples to benefit Occupy Sandy. 3:00–4:30 p.m., $20 suggested donation,


Chaise 23 hosts a Hurricane Relief Reinvention Chair Class with Rachel Piskin with 100% of the proceeds donated to the New York City Coalition Against Hunger. 6:30-7:30 p.m., $30,

Uplift Studios (Flatiron) is hosting a special Workout and Wine event with a signature 45-minute cardio and strength workout followed by wine and snacks with a portion of the proceeds going to the local Red Cross. 6:30–8:30 p.m., $40,


Forward-thinking Pilates spot Studio Anya will donate all proceeds from this class with Johnson Chong to the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund. 6:15-7:15 p.m.,


SLT (Midtown West) hosts a 30/30 class (30 minutes SLT Yoga and 30 minutes Megaformer) to benefit Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. 1:45–2:45 p.m., $30,
