Green juice is all over New York City and Los Angeles, but elsewhere? Well, it’s super uneven. Now it’s going to be a whole lot easier to snag a cold-pressed juice, even in malls. Jamba Juice, the national chain known for it super-size (super sugary) fruit smoothies, is getting in on the liquid greens action in a big way.
The chain recently introduced cold-pressed, bottled juices in its New York City and California stores and will launch them at more than 800 Jamba Juice locations nationwide over the course of 2015, reaching locations that might have more Slurpee flavors than juice blends.
Right now Jamba’s making four fruit-heavy blends: Orange Reviver (orange, apple, beet, and banana), Tropical Greens (apple, pineapple, cucumber, spinach, romaine, Swiss chard, lemon, and kale), Citrus Kick (orange, pineapple, apple, and ginger), and Veggie Harvest (apple, carrot, beet, ginger, romaine, spinach, lemon, Swiss chard, and kale).
The convenience is great, but the mass-produced juices might not be for die-hard green juice junkies—one juice can have up to 37g of sugar, they’re treated with HPP to help extend their shelf-life, and they’re not made using organic ingredients.
Still, grabbing a quick green juice at the mall is a whole lot healthier than heeding the aromatic call of a buttery, sugar-covered Cinnabon. —Molly Gallagher
