Lenny Kravitz Gets Last Laugh: Blanket Scarfs Are Bigger Than Ever

Back in 2012, a quick trip to the grocery store turned Lenny Kravitz into one of the most memorable memes of all time, simply because he chose to wear a scarf big enough to be a blanket. Now, six years later, he's getting the last laugh: This fall, everyone is stocking up on the hygge staple, proving the musician was simply an early adopter of the super-cozy blanket-scarf trend.

During Kravitz's visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week, Jimmy Fallon couldn't help but bring up the debacle, and Kravitz was kind enough to explain the lead-up to that fateful outfit choice. "I cannot escape this. I live in the Bahamas—I’m used to hot weather and I had to go to the store. I was buying some groceries and I thought I’d put on a little scarf to protect my throat, and that’s the scarf I had," he says. "I had no idea that there would be paparazzi...and that is now everything."

While the real-life scarf isn't "little" by any means (sorry, Lenny!), the meme that keeps on giving seems to expand the size of the accessory every year. "Here’s the thing about the internet though that's the problem—the scarf keeps getting bigger, and bigger, and bigger," he says.

No matter whether you call the garment a blanket (like Fallon) or a scarf (like Kravitz), beating the frigid temps by being cocooned in the cozy hug of a giant swathe of soft fabric sounds pretty delightful, right? And while Kravitz has yet to reveal the name of the designer who made the original piece, you can snag a similar option on Etsy—it'll just cost you $170. But really, isn't hygge comfort priceless?
