When I'm wearing my hair straight, I love to use a curling iron to add some volume to the look. But anyone who has ever curled their own hair knows it's logistically difficult. It's all about the angle, and navigating around the cord can make getting that perfect angle twice as hard. The Lunata Cordless Convertible Curling Iron/Wand ($250) makes this process so much easier.

The Lunata has a removable clip that allows you to use it as a traditional curling iron or a wand. I tend to burn myself whenever I use a wand, so I stick to using it with the clip, but if you're more of a wand person it comes with a glove so you can avoid any blistered fingers. It has a 1.25" barrel, which delivers medium-sized curls. Because it's cordless I can take it on the go for touch-ups, and it comes with a sleek silicone cover to keep it from burning the inside of my bag (though it's worth noting that it's about the same size as a standard curling iron, which makes it a litttttle large to regularly tote around).

The tool features four heat modes: low (250°F), medium, high, and max (450°F). It takes three to four minutes to heat up, and can run for up to 45 minutes without a cord—how long it lasts depends on which temperature you use. I've found that when I use it on max heat, it keeps going for about 25 minutes until it overheats and shuts off. Once it cools down I can turn it back on, but it only lasts for an additional 30-ish seconds. When I use it on high, though, it's perfect—it stays charged for just over 40 minutes. It (annoyingly) shuts off at around the 30 minute mark (which I'm guessing is some sort of safety feature), but I'm able to turn it right back on and keep going for another 10 minutes, which is all I need to do a thorough job curling my hair.

All of the odd heat and timing issues aside, I love using this curling iron. It admittedly has some kinks that need to be worked out, but compared to the other cordless curlers on the market (which tend to only stay hot for a few minutes at a time), it's top-tier.

I live in an apartment with three other girls and we all share one bathroom, so I've gotten used to doing most of my primping in my bedroom. It's so nice to not have to worry about finding a convenient plug, and I can curl my hair anywhere I please. Plus, a cordless curling iron is just so much easier to use—I'm not accidentally wrapping myself in the cord or having a hard time reaching a certain part of my head. The Lunata makes a tedious activity that I really don't enjoy much more tolerable.

If you have a hard time curling your hair or want the flexibility of curling your hair wherever, the Lunata Cordless Convertible Curling Iron/Wand is a worthwhile investment.
