Hyaluronic acid is one of those buzzy ingredients that will never go out of style. As any skin-care lover will happily recite to you, HA is a molecule that holds 1,000 times its weight in water and draws moisture into your skin, helping your complexion stay plump and dewy. This new cream from Neogen contains eight different types of hyaluronic acid, which means that it's basically offering you octuple the amount of hydration.

Why does having multiple types of hyaluronic acid make a difference?

Different types of HA work in different ways, so by combing various forms, the Neogen Dermalogy V. Biome Soothing Cream ($38) floods your skin with moisture. For example, hydroxypropyltrimonium hyaluronate is a form of HA produced through fermentation, and even after washing it off, its residue/ is 17 times higher than that of sodium hyaluronate, the sodium salt form of HA usually found in skin-care products—which means it offers more hydration for longer.

The other forms of HA included in the product all have different-sized molecules, which means that they're able to penetrate your skin at different levels—the small ones get deep down into your pores while the larger ones sit closer to the surface. This allows the formula to deliver moisture throughout your skin, keeping it hydrated throughout the day.

While hyaluronic acid is undoubtedly the star of this formula, it also has a slew of amazing complementary ingredients. It contains a blend of 19 vitamins ranging from brightening vitamin C and niacinamide to moisturizing linoleic acid vitamin B5. All of these good-for-your-complexion actives can quickly penetrate thanks to Neogen's exclusive nano-capsule technology, the V. Biome Liposome, that shuttles ingredients to the deepest layers of your skin. This liposome is at the center of the brand's new V.Biome line, which also includes a firming cream ($38), an eye cream ($38), and a serum ($34).

What happened when I tried it

I love the way this cream feels on my face. It has a bit of a gel-cream feeling that goes on super silky-smooth and instantly makes my skin feel softer and intensely moisturized. An added bonus is the built-in globe massage applicator. It's a piece of plastic with a round end that extends from the inside of the lid, allowing me to retrieve and apply the product without dipping my hands in the jar. And since it's attached, I don't have to worry about losing it, unlike the tiny skin-care spatulas that usually end up disappearing minutes after I unwrap a product.

If your skin could use an extra dose (or eight) of hydration this winter, Neogen V.Biome Soothing Cream is worth the investment.
