Princess Diana’s Bike Shorts Inspired This Paris Fashion Week Show
But who could forget about her iconic outfits? Diana—tall, with legs for days—wore the heck out of thousands of ensembles, including the her workout getups she donned on daily trips to the gym.
For Off-White's Spring 2018 runway show at Paris Fashion Week, creative director Virgil Abloh drew from Diana's style, interpreting some of her most iconic looks for the collection.
Looks included pastel skirt suits with sneakers and a hot pink dress with white polka dots, but it was the finale that most directly referenced Princess Di. For the show's last look, supermodel Naomi Campbell (who once participated in a prank orchestrated by Diana) brought down the house in a pair of white bike shorts under a white double-breasted blazer.
Bike shorts have been on a slow rise for a few years (yogis and Kim Kardashian West alike have tried the look) but this moment at Off-White could mean '90s retro style is really back.
If anything could revitalize tight, knee-length spandex shorts and push them to the forefront of fashion, no doubt it would be the combination of a '90s supermodel, Princess Diana, and nostalgic athleisure trends. See? Di really was ahead of her time.
Next spring's fashion looks to be big for high-fashion athleisure. See how tracksuits are getting incorporated into nail art and how you can style your hair after a workout.
