The Skin-Firming Body Cream a Dermatologist Uses on Her Arms and Legs All Spring and Summer Long

Though we should be caring for our body skin all year long, the task seems a bit more pressing as temperatures rise and we expose the skin that's been hidden under winterwear for the last five months. For Deirdre Hooper, MD, a Louisiana-based dermatologist, this seasonal shift means slathering her body with Revision Skincare BodiFirm lotion.

Revision Skincare BodiFirm ($150 to $260) is formulated to lift and firm and crepey skin on the body, which is much different than the skin on the face and décolletage (where you can use facial-care products for firming). It also helps improve the appearance of sun damage and overall skin health while restoring hydration, strengthening the skin’s moisture barrier, and supporting its microbiome.

A big part of the formulation is iFirm, a patent-pending technology that blends peptides, antioxidants, botanical extracts, and a prebiotic to help support the body’s natural production of proteins, collagen, and elastin. The formula also includes antioxidant-rich caffeine that assists in scavenging free radicals, which can exacerbate signs of aging like wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. Finally, it contains glucosamine, which promotes cell turnover and exfoliates to smooth and soften rough, dry skin.

"When I am really good about using this product, and I'm using it daily for at least a month, I do see an improvement in my skin's quality overall," says Dr. Hooper, who uses the cream on her arms, legs, and stomach. "And I think that that is because of the ingredients which blend tons of topical cosmeceuticals. Most importantly, a peptide blend that is supposed to improve the skin firmness and elasticity and antioxidants and botanicals that will be anti-aging and help stave off the process of any further sagging."

Dr. Hooper, who sits on Revision's advisory board, isn't alone in her adoration of this lotion. In the brand's clinical trials, over 90 percent of subjects showed an improvement in the appearance of skin crepiness, the appearance of skin elasticity, and skin moisturization. Plus, the reviews are pretty good.

"I've used this product for about six months," writes one Dermstore shopper. "Within the last year, I started to notice that I had a little 'extra skin' with nowhere to go. I started to use this product, and the skin on my stomach is considerably tighter! I then started to use it on my thighs, and it has also helped the skin there to look smoother. This product is an investment, but I do love it!"

Dr. Hooper notes that skin firming without lasers and pro-grade treatments is a difficult process—but there is a place for efficacious products, like this one, in your routine.

That said, BodiFirm isn't cheap: A 3.8oz bottle will run you $150, while an 8oz bottle costs $260. "What I would suggest if someone wanted to try it—because let's face it, it's a bit pricey—would be to pick an area," says Dr. Hooper. "Pick the area that bugs you the most, whether it's your inner arms, abdomen, or your fronts of your thighs, and try it and try it consistently to see what changes you see. And then, if it works for you, you can start using it on your whole body."
