Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who has the most high-tech reflective surface of all? Potentially, Amazon: The online marketplace just gained a patent for something that could totally change the way you shop online.
Instead of scrolling through pictures of all the cute athleisure items on your wish list, the company’s “blended-reality mirror” could allow you to shop like you’re in a video game. Basically, according to CNN, the smart-mirror patent could revolutionize the online-shopping experience by providing the opportunity to try on clothes virtually, like you’re looking at yourself in a dressing room. Crazy, right?

The blended reality mirror could make it possible to try on the clothes virtually, like you’re looking in a mirror.
Even cooler, the tech could also place you in a healthy virtual scene, like on a beach or the mountains. The patent states: “These visual displays can be used to alter scenes as perceived by users, for example, by adding objects to the scene that do not actually exist.”
So far, Amazon hasn’t commented about how exactly it plans to use the new technology, but it seems to go hand in hand with the newly-released Echo Look, a virtual style assistant that can tell you which outfits look best on you. Whatever’s to come, this game-like, interactive, and oh-so-simple new way to buy clothing would definitely make a big dent in the ole bank account.
