One thing becomes really clear early into the first season of Alison Brie’s buzzy new Netflix Original Series, Glow: ’80s fitness fashion was pretty freaking awesome. The entire premise of the show centers around Brie’s character becoming a female pro wrestler. And while the comedic actress does bring all the LOLs, the real breakout here is her wardrobe. (Think leotards that would fit right in on a Jane Fonda workout video, high-cut bodysuits, scrunchy socks, boxy sweatshirts, and matchy-matchy crop tops with biker shorts.)
Even if it’s not throwback Thursday, perhaps it’s time to incorporate a few retro styles into your 2017 trends, like floral bombers, mesh tops, and millennial pink, well everything, by taking a cue from the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. Who knows? Maybe they’ll make you feel as badass as the women of Glow—even if you only wind up wearing them to barre or HIIT instead of in the ring, doing pile drivers.
Here are 6 modern-day takes on ’80s staples, like leotards, bodysuits, and leg warmers.
