Generally regarded as more hippie-dippie than fashion-forward, the throwback motif is making its way back into the spotlight with a feeling that’s modern and fresh for summer. It is the season for punchy patterns and vibrant hues, after all.

“We’ve seen the tie-dye trend at Celine and Sies Marjan runways this season, so it’s definitely a high-fashion look,” says Marina Larroude, fashion director at Barneys New York. “It also goes well in activewear. Everyone seems to be taking more risks and playing with the trend.”
