It's no wonder why famed chef Anthony Bourdain said if he could live in one place forever, it would be the capital of Japan: According to AFAR, Tokyo has held the record for having more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other city for the majority of the last 10 years. While Paris came in second place, the recently released Michelin Guide Tokyo 2018 listed 166 restaurants at a single star, 56 at 2, and 12 at the coveted 3, a distinction that means the restaurant is "worth a special journey."

Well, you might want to make reservations in advance, but a few musts are sushi at Sukiyabashi Jiro (where President Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe had dinner in 2014!), Kanda (a Japanese restaurant where chef Hiroyuki Kanda uses customers' individuality to create a personalized meal), and Joël Robuchon (a hot spot that serves chic French cuisine).
