"We tried hard for a long time, and we're really disappointed," Pratt and Faris shared on social media. "Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward."
"We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together, and continue to have the deepest respect for one another."
It's not surprising they've chosen not to air their dirty laundry, so while the world may never understand why these two kids couldn't make it work, the always-honest pair has opened up before about the difficulty of maintaining a relationship in the face of busy work schedules, fame, and long distance.
"Nothing can substitute actual face time," Pratt told Entertainment Weekly last year. "Even FaceTime can't substitute actual face time, and being present and being able to physically see your family members...but you do everything you can. And so that's one downside, is just the distance. It's tough."
And Pratt's right: Long-distance relationships can be tough. But according to a 2015 study published in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, there are a few things couples can do to improve their love life's chances of survival. The tips include intuitive suggestions like being less distressed about the relationship and having more positive outlooks and opinions about your current situation—which of course are easier said than done—but ultimately the study says greater distances apart may actually equate to a better relationship quality.
Whether or not distance was ultimately a factor in Faris and Pratt's untimely ending, who knows. But if it's something you're up against in your own love life, consider the FaceTime vs. face time pros and cons.
"We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together, and continue to have the deepest respect for one another," Pratt and Faris said, leaving the world with one last awwww.
