The store, on Third Avenue at 66th Street, is the brand’s 28th location nationwide, and the 18th to carry the Nike Running designation. Its design, concept, and product selection is very similar to the Flatiron store, which opened in July of 2012.
You’ll find an impressive selection of workout leggings, sports bras, vests, jackets, and technical running gear like Dri-fit sweat-wicking shirts in both men’s and women’s, plus lots of sneakers, especially the uber-popular Flyknits.
Right now, it’s also the only store where you can buy the $450 Vapor Flash Jacket that comes with 360 degrees of reflective visibility, intended for late-night city runs amid taxis and bike messengers.
And shoppers can choose from services like treadmill gait analysis, bra fitting, and pant hemming.
Run clubs will meet three times a week, on Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday at 10:00 a.m, and will surely take advantage of Central Park’s proximity. Showing in-store smart, there are key-code lockers where you can stash your stuff while you’re looping the park.
Of course, the timing of the store opening coincides with the Marathon this weekend, and if you stop in this week, you’ll notice ubiquitous apparel referencing 26.2. —Lisa Elaine Held
