Okay, real talk: I wasn't all that prepared for how my hair would change postpartum. I have thick (but fine) hair that is prone to drying out, and at nine months postpartum, my hair changes are real and a little sporadic. It feels more prone to breakage than I remember, and some days, it seems to feel dryer. It’s an unexpected reality of adjusting to body changes after Baby, so when I heard about this allegedly "magic" (and affordable, most importantly) hair treatment by GroPotion ($17), I was all in.

Here’s the 411: GroPotion is an all-in-one treatment celebrated for working for all hair types. Made with castor oil, keratin-boosting biotin, and a blend of scalp stimulating and delicious-smelling essential oils like rosemary and tea tree, the hair treatment helps nourish and support healthier looking and feeling hair after just a few uses. Its sweet spot is definitely combatting dryness and adding shine. GroPotion is also  cruelty-free vegan product and USDA Organic certified, with no parabens, phthalates, silicones, or sulfates, so it’s gentle on your hair and good for the environment. And it's a steal at $17. Win-win!

GroPotion can be used in three different ways: As a leave-in conditioning ointment, a scalp treatment that is shampooed out after 30 minutes, or a split ends treatment you can apply before styling. I opted for the overnight leave-in option in hopes of jolting some hydrating love back into my hair, and to really get that extra moisturizing effect.

My experience using GroPotion

A little really goes a long way here. Before bed, place a small amount onto your scalp—I focused on my front hairline—and massage the ointment into skin. Then, take a comb and gently brush the product into your hair, from scalp to ends. (Castor oil is much different than coconut or olive oil. It has a thick, honey-like or syrupy consistency, so don’t get thrown by the texture and thickness. This product washes out like a dream, and doesn’t leave behind any oily, sticky residue.)

Pro tip: For the overnight option, definitely opt for sleeping in a towel wrap or head cap to avoid any oil stains on your pillow or clothing. (Try the luxurious ENSO overnight hair wrap by Vegamour in organic bamboo cotton—this avoids any unnecessary transfer and is oh-so comfy for your head while you sleep.) In the morning, rinse and shampoo as you would your regular hair routine and get ready for some extra shine and life in your strands.

Amazon reviewers keep raving about the hydrating qualities of this ointment, and I have to agree with them. After the first few treatments, my hair smelled amazing, felt incredibly soft and looked much shinier.

"I love that it has different directions for different uses of the product in regards to putting it in the hair as a leave in, putting it on the ends or as a scalp treatment," one 4-star review said. The magic of this hair elixir is no doubt the results and the price – not to mention the gorgeous, soothing smell that’s extra lovely to doze off to at night. I continued using this miracle serum consistently for more than three weeks. In my hair routine, I added GroPotion in to my hair routine two times per week. The calming rosemary smell became a really lovely part of my nighttime routine. This in and of itself was a bonus!

The leave-in option is ideal for those with thicker hair that doesn't get easily weighed down. After testing out this route, mine did feel a bit too oily and heavy for my liking. The nighttime routine was the perfect combination of hair treatment and calming ritual. Gone are my dry flyaways and lackluster locks. GroPotion seems to have unleashed some shine and life back into my hair.

And while I can't say it made my hair grow faster, the moisturizing effects made it feel less dry, and left it looking fuller and much healthier. That's a win in my hair book.

While my postpartum hair isn’t completely solved, it is definitely looking extra lovely during the growth process! I’ll be stocking up on this for months to come whether for an added moisturizing shine or for a versatile, calming addition to my routine.
