When I got my hands on the Revox Line Relaxer ($145)—one tool in an arsenal of products for aging skin from Revision Skincare—I couldn’t wait to use it on my mature complexion. After all, the research behind it practically screams, “You’ll get results!” and that’s pretty hard to resist.

Revox is meant to target expression lines and reduce wrinkles. Its key ingredient, acetyl hexapeptide-8, relaxes muscle contractions in a similar way as injectable wrinkle reducers, which has earned the formula a reputation as “Botox in a bottle” among aestheticians. Clinical studies conducted by the brand show that 97 percent of users reported a significant improvement in expression and under-eye lines within 15 minutes of application, and after eight weeks of use, those same lines were reduced by 29 percent. So the product fills in lines for immediate results, but over time, it improves skin’s overall appearance with some lasting results.

Given that, I thought, bring it on!

Revox’s packaging looks like a black highlighter in both shape and size, so it takes up minimal real estate in a drawer, purse, or cosmetics bag. Removing the cap exposes the titanium oval applicator that is cool to the touch, and allows for ultra-targeted application. Squeeze the pump and the applicator fills with serum. The first time I used Revox, the applicator felt wonderful gliding over my skin, but I was unsure how much serum was being deposited, so I used my finger to work the product into my creases.

I quickly realized that one pump provided more than enough coverage for my entire face. It took longer than my typical serum to dry—it stayed tacky for about two minutes—but I didn’t care, because I could actually feel the Revox tightening and firming my skin. It had a slight cooling sensation, which felt like pure luxury, and after I applied my daily moisturizer I noticed that my skin looked immediately plumper than usual. It instantly appeared to sag less, and I felt confident and filled with hope about what the formula could do over time.

For the next few weeks, I faithfully applied Revox every morning and continued to notice smoother skin with fewer fine lines. In reading up on the product, I discovered that it was originally designed to be paired with a neuromodulator—in other words, to supplement the results from injections like Botox. The injectables do the heavy lifting and the Revox fills in what is left.

In the interest of science, I decided to test that theory. A little Botox around the corners of my eyes left me with some residual fine lines, so I focused the product on those spots. And this is where it really shined: It strengthened the crepey skin in the area, giving it some heft, and added an additional plumping element with hyaluronic acid. While the results are subtle when Revox is used on its own, in combination with Botox, it’s a powerhouse.

After four weeks of use, I see a smoother face staring back at me every time I look in the mirror. And whether you choose to pair Revox with injectables or not, this stuff lives up to its line-relaxing promise.
