These are the meal-prep secrets Shut the Kale Up uses to crush her fall routine

Fall is all about cozying up your life (hey, fuzzy socks and oversized sweatshirts)—which means the veggie-packed salads you meal prepped all summer just aren’t going to cut it anymore.

To clue you in on how to weather-proof your food situation, we tapped the meal-prep master herself, Jeannette Ogden of Shut The Kale Up.

“Keeping things interesting in the kitchen is important,” says Ogden. “Trying different spices and herbs can really help transform a dish you’ve had 100 times, and buying seasonal produce helps to have a consistent rotation of what’s in the fridge.”

Ogden is all about embracing fall vibes, too (some of her go-to autumn recipes are pumpkin cookies, chicken noodle soup, and turkey meatloaf), and she has a few hacks for making your cold-weather comfort food as tasty as possible.

First, dust off the kitchen gadgets (or snag new ones from Kohl’s, her go-to resource for everything from cooking essentials to leggings) that will make prepping your favorite warm foods easier. “I use my Instant Pot for broths and soups, and tend to bring out more warming spices,” she says. Oh hey, turmeric.

Next, when roasting fall veggies like sweet potatoes and squash, wait for them to cool before putting them in the fridge. “This prevent them from getting soggy,” she explains. Finally, when wanting to reheat your prepped food (because, again, cold veggie bowls don’t have that snuggle factor), throw it in a skillet with some avocado oil. “It will taste as fresh as the day you cooked it,” Ogden says. Genius.
