Therabody Acquires Muscle-Stimulating Device That Provides Instant Pain Relief

Therabody expanded its feel-good offerings with the acquisition of PowerDot, a muscle-stimulating device to temporarily relieve muscle pain. PowerDot uses neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) to send electronic pulses that create muscle contractions increase blood flow to temporarily relieve pain.

“The integration of PowerDot’s clinical technology complements and further expands our product line, making cutting-edge, natural alternatives to traditional medicine available to everybody,” says Benjamin Nazarian, CEO of Therabody, in a press release. “PowerDot’s technology is superior to its competition and has changed the way consumers manage pain and optimize recovery.”

The FDA-cleared Class II medical-grade device is app-controlled, guiding you on placement and intensity based on your needs. You can use it at home, at the gym, and everywhere in between. NMES and TENS have long been used as alternatives to over-the-counter pain relief. Studies have shown NMES to be effective for everything from managing the complications from reduced exercise participation in seniors to reducing muscle-mass loss in critically ill patients. TENS has been used to manage pain related to period cramps, migraines, and more.

The PowerDot is intended to relieve muscular pain, speed up muscle recovery, and improve muscular performance. Just place the included electrode pads on your body and use the app to guide your usage. The pads are sticky to help them stay in place, but the stickiness does wear off. The pads will need replacement every 25 to 30 uses. A single set of electrode pads costs $18, with bundle pricing available for larger purchases.

Available in red and black, you can grab the PowerDot that best fits your aesthetic. Additionally, both colors are available to purchase as a single device ($199) or a set of two ($349). This means that you can always have one charging and ready to go if your other device dies when you need it. And when purchased in a set, you save $50. You can also get the PowerDot Pro Bundle ($424) which two PowerDots, extra electrode pads, and a butterfly electrode pad for wide-spread lower-back pain relief.

Theragun, founded in 2008, was rebranded to Therabody in 2020 to better represent its diverse product offerings. PowerDot joins Therabody’s lineup of recovery aids including Wave vibrating muscle rollers, RecoveryAir pneumatic compression devices, TheraOne CDB products, and Theragun percussive devices.

Theragun continues to dominate the percussive device market. It sells four variations of the Theragun, including the above Theragun Prime ($299) and the Theragun Mini ($199) which like the PowerDot, allows you to take your recovery tools on the go with ease.
