It's official: The time to prep your fun-in-the-sun outfits is here. Summer is days away, and you're probably planning your vacations and staycations as I type this. And if you’re like me, that means making sure you have some comfortable sandals in your closet to pair with your nap dresses and trendy grandma coastal pants, a la Meghan Markle. The internet, is, of course, teeming with options, but Anne Hathaway has convinced me that Birkenstocks are what I absolutely need. Sure, they're a "love 'em or hate 'em" type of shoe, but those who do really love Birks swear by them for life.

As People reports, the actress and former Princess of Genovia was recently spotted in a pair of Birkenstock Arizona Birko-Flor sandals ($110) while on the set of one of her upcoming films, Mother's Instinct. And though there’s a chance that the shoes were already on the wardrobe list for the film, a fashion statement was made nonetheless. And we're totally here for it.

Birks, which have literally been around since the 1700s, have become synonymous with comfort, thanks to the supportive cork and latex footbed. It's highly flexible and molds to the shape of your foot to give you the perfect Goldilocks fit with time. You can also expect less pressure on your joints wearing these—something that not all sandals can tout. The shoes have an EVA outsole and light shock absorption to help reduce stress on your feet. Plus, the buckles adjust to help provide a snug fit, so you don’t have to worry about your foot sliding out as you hit the pavement.

And lastly, they're notoriously durable. Our senior commerce editor has owned hers for seven years, and they're in "impeccable shape," she says, adding, "much to the chagrin of my husband, who calls them the Ugg of sandals, but I don't care, I love them."

One five-star reviewer notes that her Arizona Birko-Flor shoes have remained in peak condition over the course of three years. "I love my Birkenstocks," they commented at the time they left the review in 2019. "I wear them almost every day from the start of summer 'til I can't anymore. And sometimes with socks. (Mountain and desert life.) They are so comfortable, easy to slip on and off and pretty much go with everything. I got them in April of 2016 and they are still in great condition, although I think I'm wearing out the footbed a little too much."

And while Birkenstock sandals typically have a slight break-in period, paradise for your feet is other other side, says another Zappos shopper. FYI, not everyone finds them comfortable, so make sure you take advantage of the retailer's return policy if they don't make your feet happy after a couple weeks.

"Love these!" they wrote. "There's definitely a break-in period, but once that's over, you'll never want to take them off. I wore mine for about an hour or less a day for a week or so. After that, all good! I normally wear a medium width in all my other shoes and the narrow width in these was perfect."

Basically? Hathaway knows what she's talking about.
