Zero-Waste Founder Lauren Singer Just Opened a Second Trash-Free Shop in Brooklyn

Last year, Lauren Singer—the Trash is for Tossers blogger known for living a nearly zero-waste life—opened Package Free Shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a store dedicated to making trash-free living attainable for all people. And her message is spreading throughout the borough: The doors to her second store are officially open in Dumbo, making it easier than ever to get everything you need to live a more conscious life.

This new pop-up lives in the entrance of 1Hotel Brooklyn Bridge Park through at least the end of August, giving both travelers and New Yorkers the opportunity to grab some waste-reducing products.

"We're selling sustainable alternatives to single-use disposable travel products, as well as simple waste-reducing items like stainless steel straws and reusable coffee cups." —Lauren Singer

"We're selling sustainable alternatives to single-use disposable travel products, as well as simple waste-reducing items like stainless steel straws and reusable coffee cups," Singer tells me. "We'll also be providing an option for hotel goers to sustainably recycle travel-size toiletry containers as opposed to having them go to a landfill."

Whether you're in need of a biodegradable bamboo toothbrush, refillable dental floss, menstrual cups, or some beauty products, this pop-up will have you covered. And if the store is as popular as saving the planet should be, Singer says it could stay open through the holidays. The goal, after all, is to create spaces Earth-lovers can visit year-round.

"We would love to expand into more brick and mortar locations," Singer says. "Our goals are to help grow the conversation about sustainability and waste reduction and to give more people the opportunity to experience the products we sell in real life."

If you're not in the New York City area but you're still craving an eco-friendly shopping spree, you can still nab the waste-saving offerings online. After all, it only takes a handful of changes in your life to make a difference—even if that simply means rethinking the way you brush your teeth.
