At this point, my friends kind of think I’m a freak when it comes to hydration. I can’t help myself, though—it’s the end of January and every time I touch one of my limbs, it feels lizard-like. These are desperate times. That’s why I’m never not around a humidifier, why I bathe myself in as much body oil as I can, and why I reach for all of the moisturizing skin-care essentials.
While there are certain powerhouses for hydrating my skin—from hyaluronic acid serums to heavy creams—I’m very partial to the world of moisturizing face masks. Face masks are 20-minute ticket to hydrated, radiant bliss. Unlike acne-fighting clay masks or tingling exfoliating types, face masks in the moisturizing category are pure joy in that they’re solely meant to replenish your parched-ass skin with ingredients like glycerin and honey and squalane.
Just recently, two of my fave clean beauty brands, True Botanicals and Tata Harper, launched—specifically—moisturizing masks as if they’ve read my (dry) mind. So, in the spirit of keeping everyone’s faces happy and hydrated, I present to you Well+Good editors’ all-time favorite moisturizing masks.
“Putting this mask on is the ultimate luxury—it smells like what I would imagine the secret garden in a fairytale would smell like. Massaging it into my face is my favorite way to end my evening routine, because every time I use it, I know I’ll wake up with silky skin. I take hydration very seriously, especially this time of year, and this mask is my face’s favorite thing to slurp up before bed.” —Zoe Weiner, associate beauty and fitness editor
“This just-launched mask has 1,000 sizes of hyaluronic acid within it, and as soon as I slathered it on, I could feel those moisture magnets go to work. The clean, floral scent is super intoxicating—I wish it doubled as a perfume. After I rinsed it off, it felt like I just used an IV drip to deliver hydration to my face. It’s now my winter skin secret weapon.” —Rachel Lapidos, beauty and fitness editor
“This glycerin-packed mask is very hydrating—I use it once a week, usually on nights when I’m applying my prescription retinol product which can be irritating. It’s moisturizing but not too heavy or greasy, so there’s less transfer on your pillow. Plus it’s very affordable and I’m all about that life.” —Jessie Van Amburg, senior food and health editor
“I really love this face mask because it makes my skin soft and hydrated—it’s my go-to in the winter months! Honey is a natural humectant and it’s antibacterial, but my favorite part is that when you rub the mask between your hands, it warms up. In my book, that gives it 100 bonus points for feeling nice as I rub it into my skin.” —Melanie Lewis, ad ops coordinator
“This sheet mask is packed with hyaluronic acid and green tea extract, which help soothe my combination skin. Bonus points for being only $3 and being sold at most drugstores. Wins all around.” —Sarah Madaus, editorial intern
“I put this on at night before I go to bed, and it works wonders on my skin thanks to hyaluronic acid plus vitamin C which brightens as it hydrates. The name makes it ironic…I guess I’m craving summer, but this mask is especially beneficial for my complexion in these harsh winter months. ” —Celine Cortes, audience development associate
“I recently got a sample of this mask, and I’m in love! I have dry skin all year round, and it’s the most hydrating one I’ve used to date. It has really concentrated hydro-ionized mineral water to deliver serious moisture, and it’s also super easy to use. I apply it before I hop into bed and fall fast asleep. It’s a lazy girl’s skin-care dream come true.” —Amanda Gaines, audience development associate
“In the cold, dry Catskills air, I slathered on this moisturizing wonder before bed, and my skin gulped it up. The next morning, my face was noticeably softer and more chilled out. I’ll credit it to the medley of oils, including vitamin-rich sweet almond and broccoli seed oil, plus pansy extract, which work in tandem to nourish my complexion and make it ready to greet the day, come morning.” —Ali Finney, senior beauty and fitness editor
