There are plenty of ways to make your treadmill workouts more effective, whether it’s by doing a dynamic warmup before you start running or firing up your heart rate with some intervals instead of keeping the same pace throughout your entire sweat sesh. But one of the best hacks doesn’t actually involve running at all. And—big, peachy bonus—it’ll give your booty a serious boost.

Personal trainer Ryan Read is known for his ability to transform his clients’ rears, and he doesn’t always accomplish this through squats. Rather, one of his favorite methods is actually utilizing the incline option on the treadmill, allowing workout warriors to walk their way to a perkier behind. Because though the fear of a flat runner’s butt is real—running on a flat plane doesn’t do much for your glutes, after all—moving uphill on the machine keeps the caboose muscle fully engaged. “It’s highly intense, fast-paced, and makes for a great workout to keep the muscles guessing, which is key to growth,” Read tells PopSugar.

So while running is a great way to get in your cardio, adding in some walking on an incline is what’s really going to give you a lean, full backside, says Read. Ready to get started? He recommends starting at a 10 percent incline and a 3.5 speed, which will have you on your way to a more defined booty in no time.

See? You really can walk your way into great shape.
