A Potent New Moon Is Coming Next Week—Here’s How to Make Sure You’re Ready

Rockstar astrologer Jennifer Racioppi's best advice for your ramp-up to May 15.

Calendar alert: On May 15, a new moon is coming—and rockstar astrologer Jennifer Racioppi says it's a particularly powerful one (if you get prepped ahead of time, that is). Here's her best advice on how to do that this week, with a collective celestial reading that goes beyond your daily sun sign info (and gets *way* into your daily food, fitness, and self-care habits).

Monday, May 7

The work week kicks off with a waning quarter moon. The waning quarter moon, happening at 17 degrees of Aquarius at 10:08 pm Eastern, marks the halfway point between the recent full moon in Scorpio and upcoming the upcoming new moon in Taurus. (The next new moon happens on May 15.) As the moon wanes back to new, now’s the time to release what you no longer need. Meanwhile, Jupiter, who rules good luck, currently travels in Scorpio and opposes the sun in Taurus. Meaning this waning quarter moon forms a fixed T-Square with the sun and Jupiter, prompting you to see what isn’t working, so you can let it go. This configuration asks you stand in your authentic leadership. Because Mercury, who rules communication, currently makes a challenging angle to Pluto today (a square), pay attention to your blind spots. The moon in revolutionary Aquarius prompts you to take the lead. Own it.

Tuesday, May 8

With Jupiter opposing the sun today, you might feel called to push your workouts to the max. After all, Jupiter, the biggest planet in the solar system encourages magnanimous action on behalf of growth. Given that he’s opposite the sun, you may feel his push even more than usual. However, rather than overdo it, find your appropriate edge; the place where you stretch your capacity but not at the expense of your well-being. Remember the power of low-impact, core-strengthening workouts like barre, and classical Pilates. (Don't underestimate precise, subtle movements.) When it comes to work, don't overpromise. Check in with your answer before automatically saying yes. Ask yourself: Is this indeed the commitment I want to make?

Wednesday, May 9

Come to the upcoming new moon in Taurus on May 15, Uranus, the planet of radical change is about to leave Aries, a sign it's traveled in since 2011. (Uranus entered Aries on May 27, 2010, and then re-entered on March 11, 2011, and has been there ever since.) This upcoming transit indicates that a massive chapter is about to close and another's about to begin. Do you feel it? While Uranus will retrograde back to Aries for a few months later in the year, it currently travels the final degrees of Aries now. Combine this with the waning moon, and it becomes essential to finish projects and tie up loose ends. Bring things to completion. What's been on your to-do list forever that you keep putting off? Make it happen today. Don’t squander hump day, instead use it wisely. On May 15, a potent new moon activates a new realm of potential. Get ready.

Thursday, May 10

The waning moon in sensitive Pisces may heighten emotions—so should you feel the need to release through a cathartic sob, don’t hold back the tears. Remember a healthy cry supports your well-being and overall health. As Mercury, the planet of communication, travels the last degrees of Aries it forms a tough position to Mars, which is in the last degrees of Capricorn. With this configuration, rather than argue, take a step back and ask yourself what you want. Permit yourself to feel the full range of emotions without judgment. Feeling energetic, secure, and happy? Tap into the powers of empathy and generosity and be there for someone who needs you. Think about the people you know who are going through tough times and consciously connect to ask them how they are. Doing so might take the day from good to great!

Friday, May 11

If ever there’s an aspect perfect for striving on behalf of your fitness goals, today’s it. With the sun in Taurus forming a perfect manifestation trine to Pluto in Capricorn (Pluto is all about regeneration and power), now’s the time to enjoy your workout. Focus on precision, alignment, and strength. In need of high-impact cardio? Get it done. Enjoy your spin class, row until your heart's delight, or go all in on your power yoga class. But don't forget, fitness is about so much more than working out. Mindest impacts health substantially too. So repeat affirmations that support your well-being. If something doesn't feel right, don't do it. Trust yourself. And enjoy.

Saturday, May 12

With the waning crescent moon in Aries all day, while Mercury perfects his boisterous square to Mars, watch out for impatience. People might feel a bit rushed and angsty, but don't let it get to you. Center yourself with meditation in the morning. Using the Metta meditation, also known as a loving-kindness meditation, helps to center your attention on the values of love today too. Are you a crystal lover? If so allow the power of rose quartz to prime your day for love (you may even want to put a small crystal in your bra or pocket and carry it with you.) Go slow to go fast.

Sunday, May 13

Expect the unexpected today as Mercury, the planet of communication, meets up with Uranus for a little rendezvous. Uranus (which is known to disrupt the status quo) functions at a higher octave than Mercury, and with both of these planets aligned at the last degree of Aries, you might receive a few wild insights and/or experience a robust psychic knowing. Allow Mother’s Day celebrations to feel inspired (and spontaneous). Trust that every detail doesn’t need perfect planning. Honor your history and lineage today; say thanks for the positive. (Remember the power of gratitude can transform your life.) Whether you are a mom or not, whether your mom is still alive or has passed away, today’s a day to connect with the archetypal mother. Possibly even the divine feminine (if that aligns with your spiritual practice).
