The Butcher’s Daughter founder says the best days start with a bath and a vitality shot

Heather TierneyWelcome to My Morning Routine, where Heather Tierney and other good-life gurus share their personal (frequently surprising, often healthy) morning rituals—to help you make your a.m.’s more awesome.

Heather Tierney
Founder and creative director, The Butcher’s Daughter

I love my mornings, especially now that I’ve adopted a stray cat from the neighborhood. I live with my boyfriend, Jake, and we both like to lay in bed reading e-mails and checking Instagram; my favorite accounts are @WhitneyLeighMorris and @BohoLuxeInteriors. But once the alarm goes off one of us has to get up and feed Whiskers, who is waiting outside by the door. This cat is so luckyI mean, we feed her gourmet chicken and milk!

Whoever gets up also has to make a big pot of Vittoria coffee (we get a huge bag, grind it, and leave it in freezer, so it’s always fresh) and bring it to the other person in bed. If we’re really motivated we’ll make toast, with butter for me and peanut butter for Jake. We love the fluffy 12-grain bread that Ignacio, our pastry chef, has been working on. If I have more time for breakfast, I’ll have some Butcher’s Daughter homemade granola with almond milk and blueberries.

Depending how early I get up, I’ll try to go to yoga at The Yoga Collective in Venice. They have great instructors with flowy, fun music. If I go to yoga, I’ll grab a Cilantro Celery Punch from Moon Juice across the street. If I can’t make it to yoga, I’ll go for a beach run in Santa Monica and do a few laps on the stairs.

But if I’m too busy or not in the moodor running late!for my workout, I hop in the bath with some lavender bubble bath and oil. I mean, how can you not have a good day after that? If I go straight to the bath, I drink my coffee re-fill in the tub and play some jazz or classical music. I also love the War on Drugs Pandora station. But usually, I’m just dashing out the door or running around the house; Jake claims he chases me, so I guess that’s a form of exercise?

I’m pretty natural with my skin care…. And as for makeup, I pretty much just use lip gloss. I’m happy to go with the cheap drugstore kind, as long as it’s a great color. But if Jake buys a Tom Ford one for me, I’ll use that!

Then I head straight out the door to The Butcher’s Daughter [in Venice]. If I’m not feeling 100 percent, the first thing I do when I get there is take a liquid vitality shot. And no matter what, I have a juice every day!
