Torres also has a small studio space adjoining his West Village gem of a gym, where he envisioned a group fitness concept that was stellar and signature enough to justify a $55 per class price tag. (Classes max out at 6 people, hence the hefty cost.)
Now he’s hit on just the thing, with WillTKO, which stands for Total Knock Out, and is poised to put WillSpace on the group fitness map.
Mike Medrano, a mixed martial arts champion, created WillTKO as class to help cardio junkies tone up. If you’re a veteran boot camper like me, who loves a grueling workout but has burpee and mountain-climber fatigue, then you’ll find this class utterly refreshing and addictive.
Medrano, a 5’3″ dynamo, plays the parts of boxing coach, self-defense guru, and personal trainer. Weaving together different forms of martial arts, WillTKO alternates between fresh-feeling floor work, and using the punching bags and shadow boxing. I loved the moves with names like seated gorillas, side monkeys, flamingos, and bullfrogs. The ultimate testament is that when class ended after an hour, I thought we were at the half way point. —Alexia Brue
