Well+Good has joined forces with Today Food all summer long to help you step up your food game. This week, we’re taking on the ultimate warm weather dish—but with a healthy twist.

Nice cream—that is, vegan ice cream typically made with frozen banana or nut milk—is seriously heating up this summer. And for good reason: It’s healthier than traditional soft serve, and often packed with good-for-you superfoods.

Which might explain why even those who eat dairy are hoarding bananas in their freezer, pulling out their blenders, and whipping up their own pints of the frozen treat. Oh, and did we mention that it’s foolproof to make?

Ingredients
6 frozen bananas
2/3 cup cacao powder
1/2 cup almond milk
14-16 ounces of dates
1 tsp vanilla extract

1. Peel the bananas and freeze for at least 4 hours.

2. Add bananas, cacao powder, almond milk, dates, and vanilla extract to blender. Blend until thick and creamy.
